Burial Flags

Standard US Burial Flag folded

I occasionally receive questions about burial flags and how someone gets one for a veteran at the time of their death.

Basically the funeral home takes care of obtaining the flag for a veteran funeral. The military honor guard or any Veteran Service organization is not responsible for providing flags at funeral services.

Many times a family might not have a funeral home obtain one for several reasons. So the family may have to get one one their own.

To receive one of the flags for deceased veterans, you must fill out VA Form 21-2008, Application for United States Flag for Burial Purposes. The flag may be obtained from your local regional VA office or your local post office.

Here is information from the VA.
