Just thought any DC area folks might be interested in an event this Monday (12/16) at noon at the Library of Congress. Free and open to the public:
“Taps” and General Daniel Butterfield: Tracing the History of America’s Bugle Call

I am so glad that you have this site. I would like to see a more in depth history of the different Bugle manufactures especially of the old American companies.
A nice addition to your web site would be a historical photo album with a few words about the pictures of the bugles or buglers.
I would like to see a list of many different bugle calls that when you click your mouse on on them they play an example.
have good year keep the echo alive ~ John A.
I am absolutely thrilled to know about this event.
Keith Clark was a very special friend, and was the encouragement for me as a child and teenager that led me into a career in music.
I was in college in Illinois when President Kennedy was shot.
I was sitting in my houseparents’ living room, watching the funeral, and had a very strong feeling that Keith would be the bugler for taps. When the moment came, and his face appeared on camera, I nearly jumped out of my chair! It was an absolute thrill to know he was the chosen one — although, did I really ever think otherwise?!!
Months later, he sat at our dining room table and recounted the event. Our family heard it in every detail — some of which will never become public, but which will remain locked in my mind till I die.
Keith Clark is one of my heroes! He was not only a fine musician, but an incredibly wonderful human being — and one who cared about an ADHD kid enough to encourage and support me throughout my growing up years and musical struggles.
At age 71, I’m still involved “up to my eyeballs” in music at Fourth Presbyerian Church in Bethesda, MD as Director of Instrumental Music since 1987, and at Washington National Cathedral as a tower bell ringer in my 44th year. The wisdom and leadership of this fine and memorable man has inspired me, and will continue to do so all of my days!
