It was such an honor to meet and hear your presentation at Berkley Plantation on Sunday. I was the lady sitting when you had the presentation for the Girl Scouts. I sure picked the right place to wait for my friends and was so interested then shared with them as well as my husband and others. Our church this Sunday at 11:00 (Fork Union Baptist, Fork Union, Va.) will have an army band and the State Police Color Guard doing a Veterans Day Celebration and we will be right in line with what is going on in the world then there will be a service on the grounds of Fork Union Military Academy. Once again, thanks and continued success in your historical mission.

As an Army combat soldier in Viet Nam and elsewhere, a VFW chaplain, and an ordained minister, I have heard Taps too many times – in the field, on post and at ceremonies. Still, it engenders so much emotion that I have a hard time maintaining composure during its playing.
We may not be certain of the origin or of the words. We do not need to be. It is sufficient that it does exist and that it means so much to those of us who have served.
I was honored to be requested to play TAPS at The Vietnam Veterans Memorial ceremony on March 30th 2018 at The Wall in Washington D.C. I also played for the dedication of The World War II Memorial in 2004. I still do play Taps every Wednesday at The Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA having over 1750 missions in the last 5 years. I will continue this until I am no longer able.

As a bugler since 1962 who has had many interesting experiences playing Taps as well as the other garrison bugle calls it is a passion I hope I never outgrow. God gifted me with a talent I am thankful I can share with others. While I can no longer see to read music and rarely play my trumpet it is my bugles that I enjoy sharing with others, and that usually brings the common question as to how do I play all those different notes if the horn does not have valves! Last Nov I played Last Post and Rouse (a short reveille) at a United Kingdom Remembrance Day ceremony at Fort Leavenworth. That really surprised the British, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand attendees who were expecting recorded music. I hope that as long as I live I can continue playing “live” bugle calls for others.

I PLAY A REAL BUGLE,NOT ELECTRIC.I MADE ONE MISTAKE AND NOW I AM NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY THE REAL BUGLE.I HAVE BEEN PLAYING TRUMPET SINCE THE 6TH GRADE OF SCHOOL.I AM NOW 69 YEARS OLD.I NOW PLAY THE ELECTRIC BUGLE AT FUNERALS.IT JUST ISN,T THE SAME FOR ME .THE LAST FUNERAL I PLAYED AT I OVER HEARD ONE SAY[ALL HE HAS TO DO IS PUSH A BUTTON]I JUST WISH THEY WOULD GIVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE.WHEN I WAS ABSENT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO ,THE PERSON PLAYING THE ELECTRIC BUGLE,IN THE MIDDLE OF TAPS,THE BATTERY WENT DEAD.NOW WHAT IS WORSE,MY ONE MISTAKE OR A DEAD BATTERY.THANKS FOR READING .
