Taps at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
TAPS FOR VETERANS is sponsoring TAPS IN HONORED GLORY to commemorate the Centennial of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the buglers who have sounded Taps there over the past century. Taps For Veterans is working with Arlington National Cemetery, The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own), The Military District of Washington and The Society of the Honor Guard Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to commemorate the Centennial.
A special ceremony commemorating the Centennial of Taps at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will take place Sunday November 7, 2021 in the Tanner Amphitheater (Old Amphitheater) at Arlington National Cemetery. The day’s event will include a ceremony at 1000 and a wreath laying at the Tomb at 1315. This program is coordinated by Mr. Jari Villanueva, USAF (retired) and TAPS FOR VETERANS
The event is free and open to the general public.
REGISTRATION FOR PARTICIPANTS WILL OPEN SEPTEMBER 15, 2021

All participating buglers must register for the event.
The Arlington events are free and open to all.
There will be a cost to attend the reception.

OUTLINE OF THE EVENTS FOR SUNDAY NOVEMBER 7, 2021
1000-1100 Ceremony at the Tanner (Old Amphitheater) Amphitheater, Arlington National Cemetery
1200-1300 Wreaths at the graves of Frank Witchey, George Myers and Patrick Mastroleo, Edward Younger and John Pershing. Witchey, Myers and Mastroleo are the buglers who sounded Taps for the Unknown in 1921, 1958 and 1984 respectively. A wreath will be presented at each grave and Taps will be sounded by a Bugler from the US Army Band. The graves are located in Sections 18, 19 and 34.

1400-1600 Reception (food by Mission BBQ) at the Woman’s Memorial (You must be registered to attend)

–SOUNDS OF REMEMBRANCE-Worldwide sounding of Taps and Last Post to mark the Centennial of the Armistice
–TAPS ACROSS AMERICA-Nationwide sounding of Taps with over 10,000 participants on Memorial Day 2020 and 2021. This was featured on CBS New-THE NATIONAL SALUTE– Nationwide sounding of Taps on November 11 to commemorate the beginning of activities leading up to the Centennial in 2021
–TAPS AT THE NATIONAL WWI MEMORIAL-A daily sounding of Taps at the National World War I Memorial in Washington DC. This is in partnership with the WWI Centennial Commission and the Doughboy Foundation.
